I don’t know about how others think of life, or the way of their thinking when it comes to such a big deep topic as life. Mine is simple. A lot of times when I run, walk around, do nothing, daydreaming, in situation that I don’t know how to deal with, I simply ask myself a few questions.
Question 1: What if you are going to die tomorrow, what would you do today?
Like what Elizabeth Gilbert said recently, “Death – or the prospect of death – has a way of clearing away everything that is not real.” Death brings so much clarity about what we truly need and value upon. Does this still matter if I die tomorrow? If no, then forget about it and let go. If yes, do something about it.
Question 2: Would you regret in the future?
Everything in life is about making choices. What makes life interesting is, there is no one simple FAQ to tell us what to choose to guarantee our happiness forever. In that regards I only have one guide in mind, always choose something that would not make myself regret when I look back in time. And I have some default answer if I couldn’t still make up my mind: always try it. I remember reading somewhere that people always regret about not taking the action when they reflect back about their lives. They wish they have done or tried that – change a job / partner / lifestyle / social circle .. .
